Jason Broander complains that Scottish and Welsh nationalism is about "a nasty self-pitying hatred of the English".
This comment shows that he is a stupid, ignorant clown. Scotland and Wales may be sneered at because they are small countries: but they are as entitled to self-determination as anyone else in the World. America had a much smaller population than Britain when it declared independence. At the time, there were plenty of Brits who claimed that George Washington & co were motivated by nothing but mindless hatred against England. Some of them predicted that without England, America would go back to the Indians! How silly all that sounds now!
It is not the Celtic nationalists who deal in hatred and bigotry - it is jackasses like Broander. It is in fact HIS type of "patriotism" that is truly based on "self-pitying hatred" of others instead of honest pride. This kind of "patriotism" stinks because it is always as much about dissing other people as about saying anything positive about ourselves. You can be proud of your country without being full of loathing for the people of other countries. When idiots like Broander grow up enough to understand this, maybe they can get to sit with the adults for serious discussion.
